대한민국 제14대 김영삼 대통령의 생가 방문기이다. 평범한 한옥 건물 두 동과 옆에 기념관이 있으나, 휴일이라 기념관 관람을 하지 못해 많은 자료를 담아오지 못했다. 안내문의 내용을 옮겨왔다.

 

김영삼 대통령 생가

 

이 곳 거제시 장목면 옥포대첩로 743(외포리 1372번지)은 김영삼 대통령(재임 1993~1998)이 태어난 곳이다.

 

 

김영삼 대통령은 1928년 12월 04일(음) 이 집에서 태어나 장목초등학교를 다녔고,

 

 

서울대학교 4학년에 재학 중이던 1951년도에 이화여자대학교의 3학년이던 동갑 손명순 여사와 결혼하여 이 집에서 신접살림을 차렸다.

 

 

1954년 거제에서 전국 최연소인 26세의 나이로 국회의원에 당선된 이래 40여 년 동안 민주화 투쟁을 이끌면서 국회의원 9선을 거쳤고,

 

 

1993년 32년 만에 이 나라에 문민정부를 출범시켰으며, 1998년 대통령에서 퇴임하기까지 평생을 이 나라의 민주주의를 위해 헌신하였다.

 

 

1893년 목조기와 건물 5동으로 세워진 생가는 100년 이상의 세월이 흐르면서 건물전체가 심하게 노후되어 전면적인 정비가 시급했다.

 

 

그러던 중 2000년 8월 김영삼 대통령의 부친 김홍조 옹이 대지와 건물 일체를 거제시에 기증하였고,

 

 

거제시가 문화유산으로 보존하기 위해 2001년 5월 9일 현재의 모습으로 증건하였다.

 

 

현재 총 대지면적 536㎡에 목조기와 건물 3동(본채 75.24㎡, 사랑채 27㎡, 사주문 5.81㎡)과 석축 및 석장 130m가 축조되어 있다.

 

 

본채의 상량문은 김영삼 대통령의 친필이며 생가에서 바라보이는 왼쪽 산 능선에 부친 고 김홍조 옹과 모친 고 박부연 여사의 묘소가 있다.

 

 

Birhplace of President Kim Young-Sam

 

 

The house, located at 1372, Pepo-ri jangmok-myeon in Geoje-si, is the place where President Kim Young-Sam(Presidential term 1993~1998) was borm.

 

 

President Kim was born on 4th December 1928(lunar calendar) and went to Oepo-jangok Elementary School.

 

 

In 1951, as a senior at Seoul National University, he married Sohn Myoung-Soon.

 

 

a junior at Ewha Womans University, and the newly wed started their married life in this house.

 

 

Since elected as the youngest congressman in the history of Korea at the age of 26, he had led the fight for the democracy of Korea for forty years during his nine term of congressmanship

 

 

and finally launched the first civilian government in 1993 as President Until he finished his presidential term in 1998, president Kim devoted all of his life to the Korean democracy.

 

 

This house with five building all covered with wooden roof, was originally built in 1893 and lane to Geoje city, who then restored the house on May 9, 2001 to preserve the heritage.

 

 

Now, in a total area of 536㎡, we here have three wooden-roofed buildings(the main building-75.24㎡, the male quarters-27㎡ and Saju Door-5.81㎡), the stone embankment and the 130 meter-long stone wall.

 

 

The inscription on the main beam of the main building is President Kim's own handwriting.

 

 

As seen form the house, located on the left mountain ridgeline, is the tomb of President Kim's Father, Mr Kim Hoog-Jo and Mother, Mrs. Bark Bu-Yeon.
